You never praise me enough when I'm doing the best I can
 Sometimes it's hard to understand
 How I always make you mad, even when I try
 Sometimes I need a helping hand
 I didn't mean to walk across the floor that you'd just washed
 With my muddy boots all covered with grim
 And the ball that knocked your flowers flat
 Just slipped right through my hands
 But there's lots of things I did today just fine
 You never praise me enough when I'm doing the best I can

 My gerbils ate your curtains up and the bird I picked won't talk
 My hamster smells just like a little swine
 And the dog has fleas and sheds it's hair
 But I give them lots of love
 And I'm so glad you let them all be mine

 I may not be the best in school, but I sure know how to try
