Chingwe's Hole

Up on the top of the Zomba mountain
 In a deep hole lived a mighty python
 Long and slow and smooth as soap
 The other snakes called him Chingwe the rope
 And the puff adder said I might look slow
 But here's something that you should know
 Although i don't seem to move too far
 I'm the fastest striker in Africa
 There's a hole that goes to the middle of the earth
 And they say that the hole belongs to Chingwe
 If you fall in who'll pull you out
 Someone long and strong as Chingwe
 That's what happened to a very proud beast
 But Chingwe taught him a lesson at least
 Like you I'm still said the green tree snake
 But unlike you I'm wide awake
 I'm also long but look at me
 I can climb 'most any tree
 The mamba said you hunt your prey
 In a very friendly way
 If I were friendly mild and meek
 I'd starve to death within a week
 And the cobra said you lie in the sand
 Look at me 'cause i can stand
 I can see for miles around
 But you just lie flat on the ground
 And the water snake said oh i can swim
 Come to a river and slide in
 You look so heavy and fat and lame
 You would drown if a big flood came,

 Now a leopard came prancing along so vain
 King of the mountain top domain
 Head held high fell down that hole
 Down to the middle of the earth he rolled
 Tried to get out with all his might
 Called to the animals of his plight
 What to do they did not know
 'Till along came Chingwe steady and slow
 'round a mighty tree his tail he curled
 Lowered himself to the middle of the world
 Curled his head round the leopard's girth
 And pulled him up from the middle of the earth
 When the leopard got out he was so dazed
 And the other snakes were quite amazed
 They all cried hip hip hooray
 Chingwe the rope has saved the day
