Shifting Responsibility

On the cover of a magazine
 There are 15 ways to blame
 Or shift responsibility
 It's easier to believe
 We're not inheriting our parents' mistakes
 Today I felt like dying
 Or calling an old friend
 In search of consolation
 You just offer prayer
 You can pin every feeling to a scripture
 Every word to a line of a hymn
 It's our duty to control and to be controlled
 You were made to believe it's your place to lay beneath him
 Close your eyes and fall asleep so easily at night
 While I lay awake with flippant thoughts of different ways to die
 I can try to avoid ever speaking
 Stay in bed for my everlasting life
 Just believe in my soul
 That it could save me
 And just float like an angel from the window
 Or to the ground below
