Serpents Beneath the Shrine

Basking in the light
 Of our own accomplishments
 We stand with such pride
 With such arrogance

 Overlooking the wastelands
 The age of pestilence has ended

 Oblivious to the cause
 And we call it progress
 With each generation we fall farther from grace
 A violent decent into spacious madness
 All of our evil coalescing behind a vile veil of betrayal
 Our humility crumbles under the weight of the idea
 That we are all important, we're all someone real
 A poisonous lie we must struggle to defy
 Fight to deny this lecherous path we call life
 It all comes back to this
 A misplaced sense of self
 An evolutionary mistake
 A true failure to embrace the evidence
 And history repeats (Fuck)
 The truth we seek is soaked in shades of grey
 We'll never find
 Forever confined within these absolutes
 Victims of our own compulsions
 Beggars, ill-content
 Feeding upon one another
 Cannibalistic
 Revel in these final rays of beautiful beaming light
 Yearning to hold our place in time
 As they cowardly crawl back
 From a burning horizon
 The corrosion of our fragile moral systems
 Erosion of all that was once civilized
 Inbreeding genetic weakness
 The false existential crisis
 Every intention maligned
 Has come realized
 And all at once
 Human kind is swept away with the ash
 As history repeats
 The earth is calling out
 To unleash the serpents beneath the shrine
