Born Again

Sitting in the emergency room watching a steady stream of mangled
 Marines carried in on stretchers.
 A slightly wounded Platoon Sergeant from Fox Company,
 with tears welling in his eyes said "Here comes the whole damned
 company." Then turning to a friend he said "All the old guys got it.
 All the old guys. I've got five men left in my platoon.
 " Another young Marine died in the hospital after four hours on the
 operating table.
 Where four surgeons working with steady
 intensity all the time dismantled him like a [inaudible].
 Another arrived with one foot blown completely off,
 the other hanging by a strip of skin.
 The Corpsman who was cutting off the boot suddenly realized,
 he was going through a lot of trouble for nothing,
 and simply clipped off the piece of skin [inaudible] the mangled foot
 together into a pile of blood soaked clothing and bandages,
 with another Corpsman,
 manning a push broom, was sweeping out the door.
 I watched my friend's life slip away
 Just the other day
 I held on his hand as he screamed out in pain
 He looked at me and said "some things must go this way"
 So I got on my knees and I started to pray
 I took another man's life, just the other day
 I was on a mission and that man got in my way
