Atlantis

her lies were waves i floated on
 her silence was a blanket
 her stare was bitter poison
 and with no choice left i drank it
 i struggled in her gentle grasp
 but couldn't break her hold
 each tiny breath betrayed her bidding
 i'd obey untold
 she scribbled sometimes in her book
 and never let me see
 i'd sneak up behind her
 and she'd close it silently
 i waited through the april rains
 and thought i heard her say
 through the thunder - i'll be here
 if you stick around till may
 i turned around to see atlantis sinking in the mud
 and now the puddles fill with water thicker than my blood
 i won't live to see tomorrow i've gotten here too soon
 i see the writing is eroding before reading the last rune
 her eyes were slivers of the sun
 in brightness she grew bolder
 she pressed me for my secret
 and with no choice left i told her
 she struggled in my gentle grasp
 but not to break my hold
 in rapt anticipation of
 what fate had left untold
 all day I sit in the sun
 see how the damage is done
 phone rings, but I'm not the one to run, run, run
