Reddest Sun

First there was an empty sky
 And then the reddest sun
 I called out for the northern lights
 So you turned them on

 Is this the reddest sky
 It's surely more than I deserve
 The meteors and satellites
 And you are far beneath my skin

 It's wielding iron

 How far is it to run across?

 I don't need you to carry us

 It's always a welcome thing
 Cold water in a broken sink
 Tall buildings where the poets lean
 To catch a little light

 Not a line in the sky

 So help me find a higher hill
 To hold the reddest sun
 We'll spend the night in front of it
 And in the morning lift it up
 And the toilers in the towns below
 Will lift their heads and let their hammers fall
 But in the end it's just another storm
 Another racing heart
