The way the sun shone on
 Your auburn hair
 As if to
 Sift the red from the brown
 I brush it back
 But you only look down
 And I've never seen
 Eyes quite as dead as yours
 And I've yet to hear
 A tongue quite as sharp as yours
 But did you think that I had
 Ulterior motives?
 Or some secret plan?
 Because I was honest
 And honestly
 This meant everything to me
 And I can read
 How carefully sculpted are your words
 Bitter and artificial
 And I clench my sheets and scream
 "Oh but you were there too!
 You must have felt how we connected!
 You must have loved me back!
 You must have!"
 But I feel it's just denial
 I turn away
 But did you know?
 I lie in bed and cannot sleep
 Flesh and bone, alone between sea foam green sheets
 My bed's an ocean
 Where I hang on every word you speak
 So I've hung myself on I and love and you
