Out Of The Fray

o u t o f t h e f r a y
 how long will we pretend
 it's seen so long since we could defend
 our action and intentions start to compete
 they collide and lead us to deceit
 the right way the wrong way
 lead me out of the fray
 extinguish this dimming light
 they'll never notice once we're out of sight
 is there a good time and a sad time?
 is there any way to wash off this grime?
 we try so hard to get away
 but somethings about ourselves we just can not betray
 but it's getting harder and hard to keep track
 of all the eyes seating down upon our backs
 i'm helpful and helpless
 the cause and solution of this mess
 i'll have to resolve to reside
 not get caught on the wrong side
 gather and regroup ourselves
 still we end up like files on shelf
 though i sweat bleed push and scrape
 constantly dreaming up a new escape
 but it's getting harder and hard to keep track
 of all the eyes seating down upon our backs
 all the bits and pieces that compound
 forming this bulging mass that weighs us down
 sometimes i feel like my life is not my own
 letting myself be guided by a fucking metronome
 and i just want to skip a beat
 is this really such a feat?
 does this need to be a test?
 why must i be weighed against the rest?
