Another Day Down

well the road to Memphis is long and flat
 from the heart of the city to the west of the river
 you can see the heat rise from the sun shine down
 and I'm rollin' out, yea I'm rollin' out
 and the road to mobile is dust and dirt
 on the side gas pumps dry and kudzu covers
 I'd be barefoot walkin' if it weren't so hot

 And it's another day of candy bar wrappers
 Cigarette smoke, roll the window down
 This damned road don't know where it's goin'
 Just another day down
 Well I'm too far gone to turn around
 Just another mile, just another minute
 Till it's all the same and I'm back again

 Just for dollars in my pocket, stories in my skin
 I'll go out tomorrow just to get back home again
