I am not a superhero
 I only play one on TV
 To lend the world some inspiration
 And sell it back its self-esteem
 I'll give you something to grow up with
 Until you look behind the scenes
 And find the secrets of my power
 Are tin and polyethylene
 I am not a superhero
 I'm not the man up on the screen
 Carving clear lines through crooked questions
 With lightning fists and laser beams
 I hide my fear with fog and mirrors
 They make it easy to believe
 But I wonder, when this costume's gone
 Will you still look up to me
 I am not a superhero
 Though I can't say I never tried
 To be the one who held the world for you
 And wiped away the tears you cried
 And if the act has lost its magic
