Digressions

I came I saw I conquered and never borrowed
 The pride within my heart was never swallowed
 I think I better lay my head and rest
 But when I think about my life, I digress
 It's not just that I don't know where I'm going
 It's that I always want to remember where I came from
 All my memories are oak trees
 Rooted deeply in my mind
 But life is fleeting
 We're all fleeting
 I want to die with ambition and with purpose
 But I want to live with humility and grace
 And I hope my daughters grow to be just like my mother
 With the strength and the intention of living each day
 I want to sing and laugh and cry and shout
 And sail all seven seas
 I want to climb to peaks of mountains because I can
 And most of all I want to teach my sons to be just like my father
 And to hold their hearts higher than their heads
 But this world, world, world we're living in
 Seems to have no room for you and me to breathe
 But if you close your eyes and listen to
 The world outside your head
 You'll find that it's really not so bad after all
