Rust

there's rust
 growing on us
 and i must
 left the sprinkler on
 over night
 but it sure felt right
 when i was good n' tight
 doing something so wrong
 yea but now i'm dry
 save for the tear in my eye
 from telling little white lies
 to the one i love
 rust can grow on anything
 especially a golden ring
 now i just stair up in the big blue
 cause there's nothing left of you
 dirty dishes are stacked
 bathroom mirror still cracked
 and she won't be back
 round here any more
 so theres no sense
 in fixin' the fence
 or painting over the dents
 in the aluminum door
 not like we'd planned
 when we were making our stand
 as woman and man
 before she had to go
