Pekikalooletiiwe (Instructions; an Exhortation)

Lyrics

Walking tall, he held his head up high amongst the trees
His ears fixated yonder to the sky
With heavy heart, his need was pure as newly fallen snow
His hunger raged beneath the cliffs of stone
Time stood still; in this place he was to sit alone
Where day and night forever intertwine
Elusive sounds and the scent of purifying smoke
Lingered in that woodland mountain sacred circle
In a prayer he cried, "Manitoki, ni'otomien. Košelamalikwa,
 {"Spirits, my ancestors.
Source of Life,"} be my guide when all hope is lost."
As he waited for an answer, the world of flesh was cast aside.
In his vacant stare he became
transfixed by the wings of a feathered serpent.
 In the mist, at last it came to him – a sleepless dream;
The message he had been seeking
A trail to walk; a path lit by a spirit fire
A secret that he would speak to no one
In the brush, with eyes that faintly glowed in moonlit fog
An old man's face in a creature's form
The timeless stare of he who roams this forest land
A silent guardian for earth's truth seekers
 "Niawe!" {"Thank you!"} he cried. "Manitoki, ni'otomien,
 Tapalamalikwa, {"Spirits, my ancestors.
Source of Love"} be my guide on the darkest days."
As he waited for an answer, the world of flesh was cast aside
In his vacant stare he became
transfixed by the sound of a panther splashing.
As the fragrant smoke ascends, his thoughts rise to the sky
All the power of the heavens, gaze below with your twinkling eye

To the south, he will not forget
To the east, he will not forget
To the north, he will not forget
To the west, he will never forget
