Awakening

Formed beneath our surface
 Lying dormant for years
 Undisturbed and waiting
 Why did we feel the need

 To unearth and awaken
 As this giant slept we prospered
 Once awakened there's no turning back
 Our curiosity was too strong
 Once discovered, our needs grew
 Growing stronger than ever so we thought
 Slowly starting to feel its wrath
 In the beginning it was subtle
 When will our time end - our reign supreme
 We watched over it all and took more than we need
 Some things are better untouched

 Nothing sacred it seems
 Soon to dwell below
