Henry Green

Lyrics

Come listen to my tragedy
 Good people, young and old
 I'll tell you a story
That'll make your blood run cold.
 About a fair girl
 Miss White was her name
 Murdered by her husband.
And he hang for the same.
Doctors came from near and far
But none of them could save
 And soon they proclaimed
She was bound for her grave
 Henry Green was sent for
And locked up in the jail
 There to wait his trial
 The Court took no bail.
 My Henry has deceived me
 My poor heart is wrung.
But when i'm dead and buried
 Please don't have him hang.
 "I freely forgive him"
And she turned on her side
 "Meet me in Heaven, Henry!"
 She sweetly smiled and died.
 He appeared to be unmoved
 And still he was young
 The Judge read the sentence
He said he must be hang.
 When autumn leaves have turned
 And summer has fled
He too must close his youthful eyes
 And slumber with the dead
