Sidle Up

You sidled up next to me
 Close enough to be seen and still safe
 While I hung my hands by my side
 In the hope to entreat you to take
 But you noticed dust on a ledge
 By a book that was out of place
 So I went out the window
 To dangle my legs of the fire escape

 And stare at the moon
 Then we sleep and smart feet take a walk
 Through the sand, over rock, over river
 And when we wake the short work of mistake
 Is as if it's never been
 So you remove the dust from the ledge
 And buy the books that fall out of place
 And I go out the window to pray to what I know
