I remember him well, though I was just a child
 He would come to our church every once in a while
 With a voice just like thunder and a tear in his eye
 With conviction he'd cry, "What a God!"
 What a God who trades new lives for old
 Whose mercy and goodness has never been told
 What a God who forgets all the things I have been

 Now that old preacher man has moved on from this earth
 But he gave me one gift of immeasurable worth
