Raindrops

Just like
 Raindrops on a body bag
 Like thanksgiving with your family at a Denny's
 Like a wishing well full of pennies
 Like when your mother swears she's finally getting clean . . .
 Like, I went walking
 Something I do to clear my mind
 Between the power lines and smokestacks
 Found a homeless camp of wood shacks
 With graffiti that said, "It'll be alright,"
 That's how it feels
 Every time I hear your name
 Every time I see the flower
 That's tucked in between the pages
 Of the book I had the day you passed away
 Over my head . . .
 It all went so far
 Just how much the stars look
 Like teeth in the mouth of a shark
 When I go
 I hope they bury me
 Under the rug
 In a room in a roadside motel
 When I go
 I hope they remember me
 As great and awful as I am
