Document pt. II

I count the years ahead backwards
 I discount the decade behind as borrowed
 I figure, I'll figure the rest, as and when
 But I document this day, just the same
 I count our years ahead with vigilance
 Will we be merry, will you be crying?
 We figure we'll figure it out as and when
 But I document our days, just the same
 And we won't let the sun blind us
 As the days get longer
 So will these pages
 And we won't read or reminisce
 Long for or miss
 When we are all the ages
 I count the years ahead in my head
 But I don't count them as numbers or fragments
 It figures that it figures itself out in the end
 But these documents, they keep us
