Drives

For some it's faith in God above that keeps them to the right
 Then there's those where fire below keeps them up at night
 Some want to be told what to do
 Some need to do the telling-to
 They're puppets dancing on a string
 Pulled by mysterious things
 Drives them crazy, drives them out of their minds
 It ties them up and they can't get free from it

 For some, the feel of drink or pills
 For some, it's goods and cash
 Then there are those darker thrills
 The leather and the lash
 Some of us still don't know why
 We get up, work, live, and die
