For the Sake of the Breed

Two senseless figures on the rise:
 The number of animals in shelters
 and the amount of money paid to breeders
 Why don't people want to adopt a mongrel?
 Why are they so fixated on the makeand the model?
 Does it matter to you if a dog's brand new?
 Has a second-hand animal dismished in value?
 But a rescue dog is not a car with
 mileage, it's an abandoned lifewith nowhere to go
 It's a beating heart crying out for a home
 They are the most desperatebut they
 are viewed as the least desiderable
 For every thousand-pound puppy
 There's a thousand homeless dogs in need
 What good reason is there to not adopt?
 Who is behind designer dogs?
 Bred in a way that cannot breathe?
 You're forsaking it's health for the sake of the breed
 When are we going to stop playing god?
 When are we going to save what we've got?
