Shifting Sands

Shifting sands of time flow through the hourglass
 Carrying with it memories of a distant past
 There's nothing that can stop the endless motion
 There's nothing that can ever be undone
 Looking in the mirror
 It's reflection stares into my soul
 As I'm growing old
 Shifting sands of time flow through the hourglass
 Carrying away things I can forget at last
 Deep underneath what accumulates
 Innocence is drowning away
 No more a child, I realize and see
 That life itself is not what it seems
 Reflection in the mirror
 Burns a hole into my soul
 As death is drawing closer
 The moment of birth is the start of the journey to death
 Isn't it ironic in the end?
 To answer the question that burns inside your head
 The price to pay is the ultimate fare
 Do we only have one shot at this?
 If that's the case, what have you missed?
 When the time comes, will you be proud of what you've done?
 Can we break through the mirror?
 Grab the hourglass and turn it upside down
 Get another chance at life
 And make the sands shift again
 Could it be that all there is is just this reality?
 And that time itself is only a fantasy?
 The people that are gone where are they now?
 Could they still be around out there somehow?
 Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
 Is there nothing more that we can trust
 And if god is real, what's he waiting for?
 When I break through the mirror
 Will you recognize my face once more?
 When the hourglass is upside down
 And the sands shift again
