Fading Light

I am left alone- floating in complete and utter silence
 Ravished repeatedly by the domineering cold that surrounds me
 A ballet of diminishing senses synchronized to fading light
 The icy wind now serves as my only source of consolation
 As dull colours dance together on the canvas of the winter sky
 Draining slowly out of sight and into the heavens before me
 Into a recess of sluggish thoughts that have collected
 Forming a shallow pool adorned in the deepest of blues
 Shaking, like a rabid beast with white foam billowing
 Shaking, with such intensity to dislodge repressed memories
 Nearly knocking the Earth from the shoulders of Atlas
 Snow falls against my face to the beat of a silent metronome
 Collecting upon features that are no longer of importance
 Breathing begins to slow, matching the rate of a funeral dirge
 Straining to remember what it felt like to feel- I can't
 Complete and utter darkness falls upon me like a heavy blanket
 But to my dismay, this blanket hides no warmth beneath its folds
 Slowly, castles of snow and ice are constructed across my chest
 Winter has laigh her savage claim to the corners of my body
 Saturnine monuments built in honor of my dissolution
 Every single pulse is weakening, while thoughts are carelessly fleeing
 The hands of my father's pocket watch have frozen in place
 If only he could see it- now that it will never again leave my hand
 Snowflakes fall, causing vibrations in the air as they land
 Ringing out, mournfully, into the last melody I will ever hear
 Shortly before slipping away into sleep- wearing a cloak of white
 And I find myself expending my remaining energy in thought
 Fading in and out of consciousness upon my crystalline bed
 Carrying the soft melody of snowflakes in my head
